Sam Baran is a Program Manager in Enterprise Information Integration with titan. He is responsible for systems analysis/design within the Civilian Gov for integrating heterogeneous enterprise environments. He is working on a virtual trade show, integrated knowledge environment for the Logistics Community Management, Virtual Parts Supply Base (VPSB) for the CALS Office, and DCS2000 enterprise deployment for BOC. Prior to joining CACI in 1997, he had an extensive career with the Federal sector as a Senior Computer Scientist with NASA, Navy, DNA, DOE, DOJ, DISA, BOC. He had responsibility for designing and developing visual information systems for F/A 18 and the Space Station Freedom. They included state-of-the-art real-time imaging systems.
His 27 years of experience in information architecture, software/ systems full life cycle development, modeling, visualization/simulation have been externalized in 70 technical papers/ documents and teaching college courses. Captured enterprise/ process/ data models in support of the planning/ analysis efforts. Used manual/ICASE tools in block diagrams, states variables, logical flowcharts, star schemas, briefing slides, html frames. Developed a bpr methodology for planning, analysis, requirement, data acquisition, design rationale, process improvement; using modeling, simulation, operations (as-is), initiatives (constraints), alternatives (to-be), actuals (metrics). Worked with domain experts to develop/ elicit knowledge base systems for activity optimization. Provided group facilitation, interviewing, training and knowledge acquisition techniques. Tested and evaluated hardware, COTS products for browsers, graphics, bpr/workflow modeling, database analyses, Web page editors. Designed/ analyzed national-level bpr projects from paper-based/ microfiche to electronic imaging for BOC’s Data Capture System (DCS) 2000 prototype, DOE’s Declassification Productivity Initiatives workflow capture, DOJ’s IAFIS enterprise infrastructure, and DOL’s Pension Forms Processing.
Sam Baran has a Ph. D., M. S., and B. S. degree in Electrical Engineering; and a M. S. degree in Nuclear Engineering, all from Missouri University-Columbia. Presented projects at PDR/CDR; papers at Siggraph, Eurographics, NCGA, CALS conferences; written proposals, plans, reports; reviewed articles/books for IEEE/ACM; attended NCC AIIM meetings; and is a member of IEEE. His hobbies are traveling, classical music/ literature/ painting, archeology, and jogging.
